How The Trio Behind Mukhi Sisters Turned Their Passion For Fine Jewellery Into A Brand

Inspired by their Lebanese and Indian heritage, the designers work together to create bold bohemian pieces

The sisters behind the brand – Maya, Meena, and Zeenat – are third-generation fine jewellers who are passionate about transforming stories and personal moments into finely crafted bohemian-chic pieces. Bazaar spent some time chatting with the designers here.

Harper’s Bazaar Arabia (HBA): Could you tell us how you started out and your initial ‘lightbulb moment’?

Coming from a family of jewellers on both sides, we cannot ignore the fact that it played a major role in our upbringing. It’s somehow obvious in our designs that we are influenced one way or another by our Indian and Lebanese heritages. Our love for gemstones was passed on to us by our father; thinking outside the box comes from our mother who is known for her bold, one-off pieces and combinations of gemstones.

HBA: What is your first-ever fashion memory?

Ever since we first started, we always treated our pieces as serious jewels, like when we launched a series of rubber-band bracelets! We handled them like big diamond sets.

HBA: Do you have a motto?

Our main motto is ‘team work makes the dream work.’ We focus a lot on keeping a positive attitude.

HBA: What do we need in the region to be able to grow the fashion industry in a meaningful and robust way?

We need political and economic stability; we need fashion, jewellery, design, and technical education. A lot of craftsmanship skills are dying out because the new generation is not interested, or not getting the correct exposure and the right opportunities in these specifc fields.
