New York Fashion Week Is Moving Its Main Show Location Again

Perhaps this one will stick?

The whole process of runway shows is in limbo at the moment, with many designers opting out of the traditional show format to do their own thing, and it seems we could be headed for an even more fluid fashion landscape thanks to the news that Skylight Clarkson Square – the primary location for NYFW for the past two years – will no longer play host from 2018.

The much-lauded fashion week was held at Bryant Park until 2010, followed by five years at Lincoln Centre and the past two at Skylight. Many designers often opt to show outside of the main spaces during NYFW anyway, but the news does pose a problem for organisers. The CFDA issued a statement saying it will now look at ways to change the format of the week, starting from next year. 

Mark Beckham, the VP of marketing for CFDA, told WWD, “The entire fashion week landscape is going through tremendous evolution and we want to be sensitive to the needs of the designers and be cost-effective. So if a designer is creating an original film, perhaps they can look at a screening room. If they’re planning a casual presentation, maybe an amazing penthouse would be better.”

CFDA’s CEO Steven Kolb also stressed that “the official venue of New York Fashion Week is New York City” adding that from 2018 “there will no longer be a home base and the shows will be decentralised.”
