Rihanna Issues An Apology For Islamic Verse in Her Savage X Fenty Lingerie Video Soundtrack
The Grammy award-winning singer-songwriter turned designer said she was “incredibly disheartened” by the unintentional mistake of using an Islamic Hadith within the music of her recent lingerie fashion show
While Rihanna was praised for the diversity, inclusivity and body positivity of her recent Savage X Fenty lingerie fashion, which was presented via livestream on Amazon early last week, the singer-songwriter faced some serious backlash over the song used throughout the video.
The track, crated by Barbadian songwriter and music producer Coucou Chloe, unintentionally included the use of an Islamic Hadith, which can be heard throughout the song. A Hadith are words of the Prophet Mohammed (PBUH), which are sacred to the Islamic religion; therefore, a few fans took offense as they deemed it inappropriate to be used within the video.
“I’d like to thank the Muslim community for pointing out a huge oversight that was unintentionally offensive in our Savage x Fenty show,” Rihanna said, in a statement.
“I would more importantly like to apologize to you for this honest, yet careless mistake. We understand that we have hurt many of our Muslim brothers and sisters, and I’m incredibly disheartened by this! I do not play with any kind of disrespect toward God or any other religion and therefore the use of the song in our project was completely irresponsible!”
“Moving forward we will make sure nothing like this ever happens again. Thank you for your forgiveness and understanding, Rih”
Both Rihanna and Coucou Chloe have issued sincere apologies to their fans.
