A host of regional fashion talent was celebrated last week in Dubai Design District, proving that Arabs really DO do it better

Inside SKY2.0's Impossibly Stylish Celebration Of Arab Designers

Local fashion mavericks Roni Helou, Hussein Bazaza, Aura Headpieces, Dima Ayad, Bil Arabi and Roberi & Fraud joined forces last week to launch a capsule collection of iconic pieces inspired by the glittering-lights of the SKY2.0 experience. The celebration of regional talent took place in the uber-cool D3 area, where you can buy pieces from the respective designer’s collections throughout the winter 2020 season at the venue. From unique jewellery pieces to celebratory slogan-tees, we break down the showcased designers and why we love their work below…

Aura headpieces, as previous seen in BAZAAR Bride, is designed by Carolina Chammas, who combines intricate detail with bold, statement making structure. Invest in one of her glittering pieces to top-off any outfit, if you’ll excuse the pun. Caroline explains of the piece she created; “The piece is handmade and features bursts of artisanal crystals, inspired by the stars glowing bright on SKY2.0 nights. To us, SKY2.0 resonates with celebration. The piece is a celebration of femininity, culture and history and a testimony to women throughout Arab history”.

Hussein Bazaza offered up an easy to style yet effortlessly chic slogan t-shirt, with the romantic musing ‘Think with your heart’ printed across the chest. “I was inspired by SKY2.0, a place where sophisticated minds are united and celebrated together, where people think with their emotions rather than logic; which is why we chose this specific quote on it derived from the inspiration behind AMAL.”

Sky Bar Beirut alumni turned esteemed fashion designer Roni Helou created a limited-edition oversized jacket; “Having worked at SKYBAR Beirut prior to studying at fashion school, I decided to represent this phase of my life by playing with the number 7 – the numeral that was emblazoned across my uniform – by way of a dynamic, limited-edition jacket that comes in seven unique iterations.”

BAZAAR favourite, Lebanese fashion designer Dima Ayad, brought her empowering message of ‘You… As Is’ to the chests of iridescent silver and gold tees and vests. We’re pairing ours with jeans and a blazer for empowered-office dressing.

The unisex jewels brought by Bil Arabi are befitting for both the minimalist and maximalist’s among us. Reflecting the out-of-this-world nature of SKY2.0, the delicate pieces feature a kaleidoscope of colour, reversible design and sem-precious materials. Tres chic.

Roberi & Fraud’s eyewear is the antidote to a lack lustre outfit. The edgy frames are steeped in modern day cool, while remaining universally flattering and oh so accessible. Their rose gold, oval sunglasses feature a design designed by the hedonistic nights of SKY2.0.
