Stefano Gabbana Speaks Out About Sneaker Controversy
And the internet is not happy about it…
It went from bad, to worse for Stefano Gabbana yesterday as the designer proudly posted a sketch of a shoe from their A/W17 line on Instagram and was promptly met with a wave of hate from customers, followers and fans of the brand.Â
Â
The shoes in question are adorned with studs, sequins and quirky messages scribbled in marker and pen. One of those messages reads, “I’M THIN & GORGEOUS,” in all caps—something that commenters were quick to point out as an issue with the Italian designer. Comments included: “You don’t think it’s a little unresponsible [sic] to push a message of ‘Thin and gorgeous’? I hope this will be followed by a message of inclusion of all bodies?” @anna.elisabeth.olsson wrote. Another commenter, @rossy_rl added, “thin?! I’m disappointed!”
Gabbana clapped back with strong retorts of his own, commenting: “u think is better to be fat full of hamburger??? Stupid,” and another from the designer read, “darling you prefer to be fat and full of cholesterol??? I think u have a problem. “The label has yet to respond but Stefano quickly moved on to posting videos from his workout routine on the same page, possibly trying to silence the haters.Â
