It’s no secret that the making of any couture piece is a labour of love. Hours upon hours are spent meticulously sewing, embroidering, scalloping, embellishing and finishing each and every piece by hand, resulting in truly magnificent pieces sashaying down the runway. 

For S/S17, Karl Lagerfeld took attendees at the Chanel couture presentation into the atelier, thanks to a recreation of the house’s hallowed space on Rue Cambon. In it, the brand’s petit mains and seamstresses worked at tables strewn with fabric and sketches amongst mannequins and cutting tables whilst models paraded the season’s latest creations. 

It was an unapologetic celebration of the work that goes into the creation of the pieces, and the many hands that make them. Bazaar UK was given exclusive access to the atelier to find out just what goes into one piece. Press play on the video below to find out…
