The name on every fashion-conscious girl’s lips right now? Vetements. The haute couture label that hates labels continues to dominate headlines and the wardrobes of the A-list with their off-beat street style that’s won Rihanna, Kendall, Kim and Beyoncé’s seal of approval.
At their Couture Week debut last year the brand shunned the usual expensive gown agenda shown by the likes of Dior and Chanel and instead collaborated with 18 high street brands to produce a very tongue-in-cheek collection that championed Juicy, rather than traditional couture. Shown at Galeries Lafayette amongst the rails of other brands, the line-up included classic 90s fashions from Reebok windbreakers to Dr. Martens boots and ripped Levi’s jumpsuits, all paired with mismatched, sometimes broken accessories.
Founded by Demna Gvasalia, who has held positions at Maison Martin Margiela, Balenciaga and Louis Vuitton, Vetements operates as a collective of secret designers and has become the off-the-wall darling of the fashion world in recent years. Praised, rather than questioned for turning the industry on its head, the brand prefer to use people, rather than models in their runway and campaign shoots and don’t adhere to gendered or seasonally specific collections. Available exclusively to Harvey Nichols in Dubai, you can now find select pieces from their collaboration with Juicy Couture, Hanes, Levi’s, Brioni and Champion in store. We’ll race you there…
