Watch Here: Pierpaolo Piccioli Painted The Town Valentino Red For His Latest Fall/Winter Haute Couture Collection
The storied maison wrote a love letter to Venice, and the world, through a prismatic collection rich in colour…
Last night, over the sapphire waters of Venice, Pierpaolo Piccioli showed his Fall/Winter 2021-22 Haute Couture collection.
The show took place at a centuries old shipyard, the Arsenale, which has since been turned into an exhibition space. It was the perfect setting. The collection was inspired by art as revealed on the brand’s Instagram. “Fashion is linked to the body and to movement. Art, however, is completely free from constraint,” the caption read.
Guests sat amongst the ancient ruins clad in all white, which allowed those of us who streamed in to direct our gaze to the clothes on stage rather than in the audience. However, as soon as the show started, you couldn’t pull your eyes away.
Daniel Levy, best known for his role as David Rose in Netflix’s award winning show, Schitt’s Creek, introduced the show on @MaisonValentino’s Instagram. The actor recounted his favorite Valentino moment, when he was one of the first to wear a look from the maison’s haute couture men’s collection. “I remember the night so vividly because putting on the clothes you feel the craftsmanship. You feel the love and the care and the attention to detail and the thoughtfulness that goes into designing those clothes. It makes you feel better. It makes you stand up taller. It makes you more confident — and it was a good luck charm for me!”
On stage, jewel tones ruled the runway. Models mazed around the harbor in billowing monochromatic looks. Some wore complimentary elbow length gloves and others wore oversized hats in full ‘plume.’ The palette was a spectrum of seafoam green, lemon yellow, deep blues and fuschias–always ending in signature Valentino red. It was as if a rainbow had suddenly streaked across the sky.
