Gilded Age: A Closer Look at Dior’s Ramadan Collection
The French fashion house unveils a collection of unprecedented pieces just in time for the Holy Month
Since its debut, the colour gold has played a key role in Dior’s history. Look no further than the gold lamé Golconde dress that the founder created back in 1947
From then on the metallic hue has been a symbol of the house’s timeless audacity. And in a tribute to Christian Dior, designer Maria Grazia Chiuri reinterprets the Dior OR capsule season after season. Composed of iconic models enhanced with dazzling touches, it is well-positioned to satisfy the region’s penchant for the French luxury house’s ready-to-wear and accessories.
Just in time for Ramadan, Maria Grazia unfurls her latest capsule from this annual offering, full of luminous metallic gold tones incorporated into smart long dresses and midi skirts fashioned in poetic tulle and lace or made in cotton-Lurex jacquard. Airy and cosy knits are also featured prominently in a collection fit for the modern jet set. Unprecedented pieces have also been unveiled, such as a boxy jacket cut in a striking textural fabric, adorned with buttons brandished with the “CD” signature. A testament to the designer’s version of refined and contemporary allure and her role in architecting looks for modern, empowered women.

The capsule collection will be exclusively previewed in the region before being rolled out worldwide

With this line up she enhanced the Lady Dior and Dior Caro bags with iridescent leather, available in three luminous variations – gold, gold-pink and silver – punctuated with tone-on-tone details, while the Lady D-Joy is revealed in a version embellished with the graphic lines of the metallic Diamond Cannage. In turn, footwear was envisaged to complement the Middle East, eternal warm-weather wardrobe staples – from the 30 Montaigne and D-Way mules to the Walk’n’Dior sneakers – are magnified with enchanting golden hues. While a host of iconic bags were given the gold treatment for the capsule collection, the accessories selection culminates in a bracelet with the word Dior written out in dazzling charms.
Past Dior Gold collections were influenced by the house’s golden oldies, like Marc Bohan’s tenure as artistic director with the Pépite dress in lamé jacquard, and the sleek, luminous gown worn by actress Lauren Hutton in the 1982 film All Fired Up or John Galliano’s Spring/ Summer 04 Haute Couture collection, displayed as a symbol of opulence and exuberance through the pharaohs of Egypt – boldly worn head-to-toe.

This time, this exceptional metal is visited once again with Maria Grazia creating a dreamlike universe that exalts the house’s inventiveness and the savoir-faire of its ateliers. Well into her seventh year at Dior, the Italian designer has increasingly been recognised for imbuing her own culture and lavish Italian influences into the French house and this offering is no different. The capsule collection will be exclusively previewed in the region from March 9 in all Dior boutiques throughout the Middle East and in exclusive pop-ups at the Dubai Mall and The Avenues in Kuwait, before it is unfurled worldwide on March 16.
