The Hungarian Fashion Council is Making Waves In The Middle East

Meticulous Ready-to-wear, jewellery, and bespoke eyewear come together so give a complete picture of Hungary’s style scene

If your Filofax is full with fashion weeks pencilled in, boutique openings circled in red, and pop-ups bookmarked, double underline Budapest Select in your calendar. This 12-13 November, at Alserkal Avenue’s The Edit Dubai, the Hungarian Fashion & Design Agency is bringing a sharp cross section of Central European talent to the city through showcases and installations where you can see the pieces move, and interact with the fabrics first-hand. Hungarian contemporary label Nanushka, founded by Sandra Sándor, leads with its ‘spirit through matter’ motto, with flowing silhouettes, dreamy pastels, and translucent layers shown under Reflections. Kata Szegedi, the eponymous brand launched in 2009 and long-time collaborator Dániel Benus, brings edge to the line-up, incorporating urban geometry, angular cuts, metallic textures, and a borderline boyish charm.

NUBU, founded by designer Judit Garam, aces slow fashion and minimalism, giving new life to recycled and deadstock materials. THEFOUR, a Budapest conceptual streetwear label by design duo – Anett Gálvölgyi and Márton Miovác, keeps streetwear’s most important tenet front and centre: clean lines, ease of movement and practicality over complication.

Originating in a part of the world where the puffer is non-negotiable, CUKOVY turns outerwear into the outfit. Under Milan-based Lucia Grande’s direction, the Puff Me Up collection prioritises functional, modular construction with detachable sleeves, morphing hoods and sculptural volume, presented in cocoa, moss, teal and burgundy, with nature-inspired prints. AANRO, the menswear label founded by Áron Szűcs, retools classic designs with sport-inflected fabrics and reflective touches, as part of their Dual Track showcase.

Beyond the clothes, Hungarian craft is also going to be in focus with accessories and accents. Jewellery label Hoffmann D’or, founded in Budapest by Dorottya Hoffmann, translates organic forms and unusual-hued gemstones into intimate, everyday statements that represent a metamorphosis theme. METAMORPH, an atelier specialising in fully bespoke eyewear, focuses on architectural frames and precision fit around the wearer’s natural facial structure, with ‘floating’ silhouettes featured in OpArt.

As Budapest Select arrives this winter, the region is set to be treated to an insider look at contemporary Hungarian design, with creative exchange bound to run both ways. Budapest Select will take place 12-13 November at The Edit Dubai; for more information visit hfda.hu
