Regarded as the beginning of a long legacy Dubai Fashion Week (formerly known as Arab Fashion Week) has quickly become the prime event on the region’s fashion calendar. The exciting five days of fashion festivities, a true celebration of craftsmanship and creativity, took place on March 10-15, held in partnership with Dubai Design District – the city’s hub for the ecosystem of regional creatives.

The week was a huge success spanning menswear, womenswear, ready-to-wear and couture, with homegrown heroes like Dima Ayad, Mrs. Keepa, Michael Cinco, Amato and Marmar Halim presenting their latest collections.

With that said, Bazaar Arabia has curated a list of key highlights from the special event…

Emergency Room

In celebration of the brand’s 5th anniversary, Emergency Room unveiled its latest collection titled, “Home Sweet Home” at Dubai Fashion Week. The collection featured upcycle denim, knitwear and evening dresses with a colour palette range of white to shades of grey and black – standout pieces included face masks that retraced the brand’s history and shirts made from deadstock men’s tailoring fabric.

LATEFORWORK

LATEFORWORK’s collection takes inspiration from the reality of our daily lives, giving us designs of subculture references such as desk job roots – attendees witnessed reimagined formal wear featuring disproportional cuts and intrusion of colour with a thick velvety fabric that takes ‘the attire out of the office’.

Anomalous x Hot Wheels

Finally unveiling their long-awaited collaboration with the American scale model car brand and #1 selling toy company in the world, Hot Wheels and Anomalous’ capsule collection consisted of bomber jackets featuring patchwork, reimagined formal wear, experimental and colourful racing-inspired garments mixed with Anomalous’ signature patterns.

Pipatchara

This latest collection titled “Sensation Spectrum”, combined sustainability and luxury – inspired by the sensations of nature experienced during vacations with the main focus on light and sound. The collection gave attendees 30 versatile designs with the use of unconditional material and a vast colour palette of grey, navy, silver, black, olive green, light purple, white and light pink.

Marmar Halim

Bringing the complexities of the desert straight onto the runway through the stage set-up and the intricate designs showcased – the collection, titled “Hawma’a” means desert in Arabic and has been translated into carefully manipulated fabrics such as taffeta, velvet, chiffon and sequence as well as leather-like and drapes silhouettes.

Lili Blanc

Following the showcase of Lili’s “Flamme Femme” collection during Paris Fashion Week as part of the Arab Fashion Council’s partnership with the Federation de La Haute Couture et de la Mode, Lili Blanc returned to the emirate to unveil her collection at Dubai Fashion Week – featuring crystals sparkled over sharply tailored suits, capes, evening dresses alongside skirts, flared and fitted trousers making the various designs an all-around collection.

Slimi Studio

Despite a colour palette of only three dominant colours within the collection, Slimi Studio provided a vast range of multiple personas on the runway – strutting down the runway were oversized puffer jackets and pants, exaggerated hanging pockets and cutout black dresses aiming to redefine boldness and simplicity.

Dima Ayad

Dima Ayad welcomed us into her world of vibrant hues, every piece meticulously crafted to precision to embody uniqueness and inclusivity. Dima’s connection with metallic is clear throughout the collection such as textured gold dresses, metallic collars and eye-catching pops of blue in gradient shades.

Mrs. Keepa

The AW23 collection, titled “Life is a Game”, was presented digitally at Dubai Fashion Week. The designer, Mariam Yehia drew inspiration from Gen-Z, a generation known for their authentic self-expression – featuring avant-garde and modern designs. The innovative collection incorporated denim for the first time, emphasising upcycling and recycling which aligns with Mrs. Keepa’s sustainability values.

Michael Cinco

The collection, inspired by the sophisticated architecture of the Duomo di Milano in Milan, Italy featured timeless jackets, delicate designs and unique embroidery reminiscent of the gothic regalia. The colour palette, which was black and grey hues reflected beautifully on the catwalk with Swarovski crystals which added the perfect about of glam to Michael Cinco’s couture designs.
