Rachel Green’s Style Is Making A Comeback… And We’re Here For It
The Friends character’s fashion sensibilities have influenced both millennials and Gen Z fans alike
Blame it on Jen Aniston for creating yet another viral TikTok trend, or on Gen-Z’s obsession with nostalgia and Y2K in all its forms — The Rachel is back.
The iconic hairstyle, which was sported by Jennifer Aniston as she played the fan-favourite Rachel Green in Friends, is the chic summer do that’s taking over the internet – and spurring a revival of the classic Rachel Green style amongst Gen-Z.
The bouncy, layered bob was designed by hairstylist Chris McMillan on set– cementing its place as the hairstyle of the 90s as the show’s popularity skyrocketed. And now, TikTok is bringing it back. Styled with classic curtain bangs and softer layers, younger fans of the character are enthusiastically sharing their modern take on the hairdo online.
It’s a trend that celebrities are taking notice of as well. Jodie Comer was spotted at Wimbledon earlier this month with a shoulder-length, subtler version of The Rachel, and Jessica Alba recently spoke to Glamour UK about her own experience with the haircut.
And of course, Rachel’s style cannot be complete without mention of her outfits. From classic turtlenecks to slip dresses, the character’s looks have become a source of inspiration for fans on social media as well. The hashtag #rachelgreenoutfits currently has 6.9 million views on TikTok, and features a number of fan recreations of Rachel’s wardrobe.
In fact, Jennifer Aniston herself wore a dress straight from Friends’ wardrobe this past week. The actress smiled for the camera with Chris McMillan in a flowy, lacy midi dress donned by Monica (Courteney Cox’s character) in season 7. Jennifer also shared an Instagram story later, confirming that it was indeed a featured outfit on the show. With all the buzz Friends’ style is generating at the moment, we can’t help but wonder if this was a cheeky nod.
