10 Street Style Lessons Courtesy of New York Fashion Week
As the first week on the calendar wraps up, here’s all the best wardrobe inspiration from the attendees
1. Get a slogan tee (and make it a political one)
Although Prabal Gurung’s political tees may have drawn some criticism for their similarity to last season Dior, one thing is for sure – political slogan T-shirts are here to stay, so we suggest you invest in one sharpish.
2. Wear dresses over trousers
The ‘drouser’ is having something of a moment on the red carpet this awards season and the trend is also cropping up on all the front rows.
3. Embrace corsetry
The corset trend is back and, as you can see, is the best new layering tool.
4. You can wear a tracksuit
It might seem like a daunting prospect that only the most forward-thinking fashionistas can pull off but, when styled right, the sporty tracksuit can actually be very wearable.
5. Wear coloured aviators
They are fast becoming this season’s most popular sunglasses trend. Already loved by Bella and Gigi Hadid, Kendall Jenner and much of the street style set, we suggest you invest in a pair now.
6. Bring out your spring shoes now
And pair them with tights.
7. Try a fishnet tight
They are not usually for the faint hearted, but fishnet tights have definitely made a comeback and can look impossibly chic. Team with something sporty if you want to dress them down.
8. Invest in statement sleeves
They were one of the biggest street style trends last season and thankfully, it looks like they’re here to stay.
9. Make your own stylish statement
To take in Raf Simons’ debut for Calvin Klein, Kate Bosworth made a very special T-shirt herself by ironing on the new logo to a plain white tee. Follow her cue and you ensure nobody will be wearing the same thing as you.
10. Try the half tuck
An effortlessly stylish way to breathe life into an old shirt.
