Emmy Awards 2020: 8 Most Memorable Looks From Last Night

Red carpet or not, celebrities and A-Listers were still (digitally) out in full-force, keen to make a statement across social media

The 72nd Emmy Awards took place last night – but with a twist. From Jennifer Aniston to Zendaya, the biggest celebrities still made an appearance, putting their own special twist on the concept of “walking” (if you can call it that) the red carpet from their homes. Bazaar shares a few of our favourite looks from the awards ceremony here.

Billy Porter

Never one to play it safe on the red carpet (in fact his iconic looks have the tendency to capture all the attention at any event) Billy Porter took our breaths away in a custom-made, off-white ensemble by Saudi brand Ashi Studio. Styled by Ty Hunter, the look consists of a tailored jacket and elegant, flare trousers. Paired with Lorraine Schwartz jewellery and a statement ear cuff, everything about his outfit screamed statement — but in the best of ways.

Regina King

Regina King certainly knows how to work the camera at an award show! Last night she received the award for ‘Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie’ for her role in Watchmen, making it her fourth Emmy in the last six years. During her acceptance, she wore her second outfit: a retro hot pink suit over a “Say Her Name” T-shirt, in honour of Breonna Taylor.

Her first look of the evening — which was shared with fans via Instagram — was a stunning  Schiaparelli gown, detailed with sapphire blue silk faille and bijoux embroideries, finished with Stuart Weitzman heels and an array of delicate Nouvel Heritage jewellery.

Tracee Ellis Ross

There is no denying that Tracee Ellis Ross was one of the best-dressed women last night; not only did she stun us in total glam with a floor length, golden gown by Alexandre Vauthier, but she gave us a total quarantine-chic moment by pairing her look with a matching mask. With a sleek hair style and classic makeup, the look is finished with vintage Tiffany & Co jewelry and Jimmy Choo heels, showing us all that even virtually the Emmys could be glam after all.

Zendaya

Zendaya has a longstanding history for her iconic red carpet looks; so, of course she didn’t disappoint. She stunned in Christopher John Rogers FW20 silk taffeta dress, paired with Louboutin heels and Bulgari accessories, all styled by Law Roach. The actress and singer made history by being awarded ‘Best Lead Actress in a Drama Role’ for her role in Euphoria making her the youngest winner to receive the award.

Laverne Cox

In Laverne’s own words “No red carpet. No problem.” Opting for a pop of colour for her first look of the night, she dazzled in a floor length gown by Lebanese designers Azzi & Osta. Styled by Christina Pacelli, the look was partnered with Ruthie Davis shoes and Anabela Chan jewellry.

Reese Witherspoon

Reese Witherspoon proves that sometimes simple and classic is the way to go. Wearing an effortless black gown by Louis Vuitton, paired with delicate accessories and a stunning red lip, she gave us pure Marilyn Monroe vibes last night. With detailed shoulders, her Emmy’s look was refined yet far from boring.

Yara Shahidi

Yara Shahidi has quite the reputation for her stunning style. The actress, producer and activist looked ultra-glam in a custom Prada dress, with contrasting black feathers. Styled by Jason Bolden, she paired the look with natural makeup and a creative twist on classic braids, showing the world that staying home can be just as glamorous as hitting the red carpet.

Issa Rae

Whilst other celebrities shared their looks from photoshoots and living rooms, Issa chose to celebrate her Emmy nomination by hiring out an entire football field: the SoFi stadium. Her outfit was also far from boring, as she stunned in a custom Sergio Hudson number. The beautiful floor length gown was simple and elegant. She finished off  the look with long statement hair and a pair of Nike sneakers.
