From sporting a pair of The Attico mules in the palace to lining the grounds in neon pink lights, Bazaar Arabia shares how to dress like this Pink City resident…
Have you ever pondered upon what goes on behind the extravagant golden doors of a centuries-old palace? If not, I’m not sure what to tell you. However, it apparently involves tea lights placed atop carefully manicured laws and fairy lights shaped in the form of stars – all designed by one person, Claire Deroo.
Well, who is this aristocrat you ask? According to the Daily Mail, Claire is a descendant of King Louis XIII’s musketeer – Isaac de Porthau said to have inspired Porthos in Alexandre Dumas’ iconic novel. Although born in Paris, Claire had been frequenting Jaipur regularly since the age of five – subsequently becoming a permanent resident.
Since then, the mysterious resident of the 300-year-old City Palace of Jaipur spends her time handmaking delicate gems for her aunt’s jewellery brand, Marie-Hélène de Taillac, adorning the palace in lavish flowers and fine silverware as well as launching a charitable organization with the Princess DiyaKumari Foundation prior to the pandemic.
With all that said, Bazaar Arabia has curated a colourful list of Claire’s most stylish moments taken straight from the jewellery designers Instagram feed…

Holi 2023
Claire celebrated this year’s Holi (otherwise called the Festival of Colours) at the City Palace in Jaipur. The popular Hindu festival celebrates spring, love and new life – signifying the triumph of good over evil. Claire opted for an ombre pink and orange deconstructed sari, accessorising with a satin floral handbag from Zara and matching Devon 155 mules by The Attico.
Fallen Celestials
As described by the French creative herself, ‘Fallen Celestials’. Claire poses with New York’s University Gallatin School of Individualized Study graduate and Princess of Jaipur, Guaravi Kumari. The duo are twinning in elegant white dresses and graceful angel wings.
Pretty in Pink
Claire poses for a mirror picture amid one of her most daring takeovers of the City Palace yet – pink tassels hang from the walls as the jewellery designer makes a statement wearing a blush pink dress designed by Giambattista Valli, accessorising with jewels in her hair and around her neck as well as a pair of hot pink cowboy boots.
Flower Power
Sun-kissed and embellished in gold necklaces and rainbow gems, Claire wears a beautiful turquoise Jodhpur dress by the PDFK (Princess DiyaKumari Foundation) store, accessorising with a matching scrunchie, tortoiseshell sunglasses a matching dark blue Re-Nylon Re-Edition 2000 mini bag by Prada.
Little Black Dress
In the eyes of a regular onlooker, Claire is wearing a simple black dress yet to those familiar with the world of fashion, the Parisian-born socialite is wearing a little black dress – ascribed by fashion historians as originating from Coco Chanel’s little black dress designs in the 1920s and once quoted by the Duchess of Windsor, Wallis Simpson “When a little black dress is right, there is nothing else to wear in its place,” Claire pairs her dress with black tights, matching stilettos as well a Le Bambino bag by Jaquemus and a pearl heart choker by Ecru.
Heritage Dressing
There is something so special about owning a piece passed down to you. Whether that be a ring, a necklace or in Claire’s case – a mustard yellow co-ord passed down to her by her grandmother. Claire upped the anti on the outfit with matching platforms, a yellow bow in her ponytail, white sunglasses and a bright orange Le Chiquito Moyen bag by Jaquemus.
