Saudi Arabian designer Hatem Alakeel has released his first non-abaya based collection for his womenswear label Toby Femme, with stunning (and Suhoor appropriate) results.
Having designed womenswear for over five years, Hatem's easy silhouettes in beautiful colourways speak to the modern woman who likes to fuse the traditional with the contemporary. "The collection (made mostly in linens and cotton) is called PAON, which means peacock in French, and it is a symbol of freedom. I was inspired by kimono art embroidery for this collection, and the peacock is often a focal point on these pieces," he tells Bazaar.
Of the Toby Femme woman, Hatem explains she is someone who "celebrates her culture and diversity, but is ready to move forward. She could be Eastern or Western. She does not conform to trends all the time, as she has her own signature style."
