Harper’s Bazaar Arabia: What was the inspiration behind your A/W16 collection?
Razan Alazzouni: The winter collection is influenced by blooms and roses. I wanted to show the structure found in the rose, in the lines of the clothes. You see that in the soft tulles and flowy organza, and then again in the thick wools and crepes. The cuts are meant to be modern yet playful; just the way a flower is.
HBA: What is the style mantra of the woman you envision wearing it?
RA: I think the woman that wears our line is modern but has a flare for old-school elegance also.
HBA: What is your favourite piece and why?
RA: I think my favourite piece in this collection is the tulle beaded top. I love how it can be an essential part of your wardrobe. You can wear it under a dress or just on its own. And what girl doesn’t love a dramatic collar?! It’s the most playful piece in the collection and that's why it is my favourite.
HBA: What materials have you used?
RA: I’ve used a range of materials in this collection, each with different weights and compositions, including tulle, silk organza, crepe, wool, jacquard and for the first time, mink.
HBA: How would you describe the Razan Alazzouni woman?
RA: A confident woman that reflects her personality and mood in the way she dresses.
HBA: Why did you decide to show in London? What do you think it offers over the other Fashion Weeks?
RA: I think London is the city of art. It’s a melting pot with so many talented people showing their work. Also London, to me, has always been the place to discover hidden gems. In my opinion, it’s the best city to show your collection as a new brand to the European market.
HBA: How will you celebrate once your presentation is over?
RA: Well, I will be back at work! It's wedding season and we have a capsule collection that will be out soon. I’m very excited to reveal it.
