The remake of Disney classic, Beauty and The Beast, has inspired designers to create their own movie-themed collections

Although Disney has been remaking their classics for quite a few years, the latest adaptation of Beauty and The Beast, starring Emma Watson, is the first to inspire designers to create a themed collection.

Christopher Kane spoke with Harper’s Bazaar UK and told the site that he was inspired by Belle’s non-conformist nature. “She's always been an outsider with a strong sense of self which is why I love her and her spirit. She would never conform and she's an individual - she can wear what she wants when she wants. She is the Christopher Kane woman, from humble to extravagant.”

And it's not only high fashion designers that have been swept up in the magic of the film. High street brands like Minkpink and Juicy Couture have also released collections based on the characters of the movie. However, instead of gowns, Minkpink targets its twenty-something audience with off-the-shoulder dresses, a denim jacket with the Beast’s face embroidered on the back and a pair of overalls inspired by the blue pinafore that Belle wears while strolling through the town. Rachel Evans, Minkpink's designer, explains that they combined the “fine details and classic quotes of the film to current trends and modern slang.” Juicy Couture has also created velour jackets inspired by the Disney classic.

Jewellery designers Swarovksi and Alex Monroe have also created intricate pieces dedicated to the characters and iconography found in the fairytale. The Beast’s enchanted rose serves as the key inspiration for most of Swarovski’s collection, whereas Alex Monroe captures the visual symbols that complement the classic, which you can see here.

The film's leading lady Emma Watson has excelled at taking her on-screen persona into real life through her press tour outfits. One such example was when the actress was spotted wearing a yellow Dior Haute Couture gown at a book reading held at the New York Film Society for Kids. Emma not only wore the dress, but was also part of the design process. Maria Grazia Chiuri, the creative director at Dior who has long excelled in creating princess-worthy gowns, teamed up with Emma to create the piece from sustainable, Eco-Age endorsed fabrics.
