Whether you need them or not

This morning, Virginie Viard presented her debut couture collection for Chanel at the Grand Palais, which had been transformed into a library for the occasion. Fitting then that perhaps the most covetable part of the collection were the many pairs of impossibly chic reading glasses dotted throughout.

The house's new creative director accessorised several of the collection looks with metal-framed reading spectacles, which will have everyone wanting to buy a pair, whether they need them or not.

The glasses proved the perfect finishing touch to everything from a tuxedo to a printed ballgown, meaning that these specs should certainly be worn outside of the library (and, no doubt, onto the red carpet) giving a cool and demure twist to any look.

As befitting the library setting, prim and proper looks dominated the catwalk, with high-necked Edwardian ruffles, bow-embellished Victoriana pumps and trademark tweed suits featured throughout.
