Textured chalky walls, and sculptural floor to ceiling architecture within the American Museum of Natural History’s new Gilder Centre set the minimal, yet strikingly stunning show space , for NYFW’s much anticipated Tory Burch SS24.
Harper’s Bazaar Arabia’s Fashion Editor Laura Jane Brown went backstage and front row to capture the action first hand.

In recent seasons the Tory Burch woman has evolved, she is more daring, fashion forward and experimental, yet retains the classic comfortable elegance Tory is known for. The SS24 collection was no different.

Tory’s show notes set the tone for the collection – ‘In a chaotic world, we thought about what ‘effortless’ means now. Clothing that frees up space in your mind.’
The collection consisted of experimentation with new shapes, focusing on curves. Flat shoes that ‘were constructed entirely of round edges’, coloured sunglasses wrapped around the face, curved clutch bags shaped to sit on the hip, yet the memorable piece – dresses, tunics and jackets, could be heard before seeing. A jingle like sound, that had heads turning, and phone camera’s at the ready.

Backstage, post show Harper’s Bazaar Arabia asked about the inspiration behind these musical pieces – ‘ I loved the idea of taking something that makes such a beautiful sound, and making it minute enough to become an embellishment, and so when you walk into a room, the way it sounds is extraordinary, super delicate, yet sounds beautiful.’

As for the non-musical standout pieces, playful cow earrings, keychains, and crinoline ringed dresses, in an array of styles and colours, that bounced as models including Emily Ratajkowski graced the runway. Tory explained – ‘I wanted to take things that were restricted to women in the past, and reclaim them, make them part of the beauty of femininity.’ We couldn’t agree more.
