VCUarts Qatar Students Make Their Liberty London Debut
The school has joined forces with the famed British department store, providing pupils with the opportunity to showcase their best work alongside luxury labels
When you’re a young creative there’s nothing quite like seeing your work out there in the “real world” – and it doesn’t get any more real for a few talented students from VCUarts Qatar than seeing their pieces on display in one of London’s most famous department stores.
The Doha-based arts school has joined forces with Liberty London to unveil a collaboration that puts aspiring designers’ work front centre at its iconic shopping destination, displaying a selection abayas created by Aanji Speldewinde, Aatikah Al-Thani, Alfutoon Al-Said, Fatima Al-Siddiqi, Fay Alsharif, Halah Mahmoud, Maha Al-Rabaan, Maya Yatim, Samah Sulyman, and Wadha Al Attiya.

In this unique collection, inspiration is drawn from the timeless cultural Middle Eastern attire while seamlessly blending Liberty of London’s archival floral collection of modern textile design.
The display of abayas is located on the 3rd floor in the textile department and will be on display until September 2, 2024.

The partnership between VCUarts Qatar and the department store was facilitated by Doha Design District, as it continues to champion young creatives from the region; the students’ work will also be displayed in the District and at the British Council’s 90th-anniversary celebrations in the near future.
