Dior Introduces Signature Lucky Star Jewellery Collection
An emerging star brings new lustre to Dior’s signature jewellery collection that was inspired by a moment of kizmet in the designer’s life
Christian Dior’s superstitious nature meant that he walked around with bulging pockets. Sprigs of lily of the valley, hearts, four-leaf clovers and a piece of wood were among his favourite trinkets, but his most-treasured lucky charm was a gold star that he found while pondering a dilemma on Rue Saint-Honoré in Paris. Christian saw the star as a sign that he should take the plunge and begin his eponymous fashion house.
Since that mystical moment during the 1940s, a star has featured in Dior collections through the decades, perhaps most strikingly as an eight-pointed symbol in the house’s signature Rose des Vents jewellery collection.

It was in 2015 that Dior Joaillerie’s creative director, Victoire de Castellane reimagined the lucky star with Christian’s favourite flower, the rose, and Rose des Vents – which translates as ‘wind compasses’ – was born. A visit to the Dior family home in Granville in Normandy, France sparked the idea. “Engraved in the floor is a compass rose, which struck me immediately,” said Victoire. The motif, she feels, embodies “a very pretty idea of a journey.”

Seventy-five years after Dior was inspired to open his atelier – thanks to that fortuitous star he found on the pavement – the starry jewellery collection still dazzles. Here, appropriately enough, it’s worn by a rising star of the fashion world, French model Alice da Luz. Here’s hoping some of the designer’s luck rubs off on her as she embarks on her modelling career.
