How To Wear Your Watch Like a Fashion Editor

The Tag Heuer Carrera Date suits spring’s pretty pastel colour palette. Returning to the racetrack as the Official Timekeeper of Formula 1, the maison’s iconic motorsport inspired watches have been reimagined for 2025

Over 230 Grand Prix wins. More than 500 podium finishes. 15 World Drivers’ Championship titles. Eleven World Constructors Championship titles. If anyone knows racing, it’s Tag Heuer. The very first watchmaking maison to become the official sponsor of the sport in 1971, Tag Heuer is synonymous with the world of Formula 1. The alliance dates back to 1958, when Jack Heuer became the 4th generation of his family to take to the helm. Jack cleverly combined the maison’s reputation for the world’s most accurate chronographs with the glamour and gleam of motor racing, first designing a groundbreaking collaboration with Ferrari in the seventies, and then partnering with McLaren between 1986 and 2015. The maison operated as the Official Timekeeper of Formula 1 from 1992 to 1993, and its bestselling timepieces unerringly riff on the commandments of supercar design – exceptional engineering and meticulous precision, packaged with a little star appeal for good measure.

The Carrera Date is no exception. First created in 1963, it was inspired by the fast-paced thrill of motorsport. Jack had designed the original Carrera based on the dashboard instruments of race cars and was inspired by the daring Carrera Panamericana road race. Its creative codes still resonate today – the dial is surrounded by a gradient track to evoke velocity, while its uncluttered design allows its wearer to glean the time at a glance, should you be mid high speed chase. When it made its debut the Carrera Date measured in at 36mm, and 2025’s newest models echo this ultra-versatile case size – perfect for female wrists, without feeling diminutive whatsoever.

Gucci, Loewe, Versace, Burberry

This year, as the house returns to its role as Official Timekeeper of Formula 1, it has unsurprisingly unveiled an extravaganza of racinginspired watches, updating some of its most important icons. For the ladies? The Carrera Date has been dressed up in pretty pastel tones, allowing you to choose between powdery pink and a fresh shade of lilac, both adding a dash of playful femininity to its strong, steel silhouette. Diamond hour markers add a sprinkling of sparkle to the dial, and each iteration features either an elegant sunray-brushed or snail-brushed effect, to add a little extra shine. Don’t let its artistry distract you from its engineering though – the new model is powered by the latest Caliber 7 automatic movement, boasting a 56-hour power reserve. She’s as powerful as she is pretty.

While we won’t pretend that this is the most complex or complicationfocused watch by the Swiss behemoth, we can attest that it provides the perfect dash of optimism and charm as spring rolls around. Its perfect pairings? Play to the perfect shade of Parma violet and wear with Gucci’s saccharine leather jacket, layered over a light cardigan by Brunello Cucinelli. Navy blue feels like a far chicer counterpart to black, so invest in elegant separates such as Alaïa’s tailored trousers or waffle-weave shorts. For those truly unafraid to be frivolous, choose unapologetically pastel accessories – Balenciaga’s City bag is bold in lilac leather, while Dries Van Noten’s futuristic sandals suggest spring is in the air. Lilac makes maximum impact when worn monotone from head to toe – pop the Carrera Date on your wrist as a final flourish, then it’s lights out and away we go.
