How To Choose Iconic Diamond Jewellery

Famously a girl’s best friend, diamonds come in all colours, shapes and sizes, but what makes a truly iconic piece of diamond jewellery?

Diamonds are extraordinary. Nestled deep within the earth’s mantle and subjected to extreme pressure and heat, it takes between 1—3.3 billion years for a natural diamond to form. The hardest known natural material on the Mohs scale of mineral hardness, they are used for high-precision cutting tools in myriad industries, as well as adorning our ears. They have an astral association, too—diamonds have been found on other celestial bodies, and can form when meteorites strike. Above all else, however, it is their extraordinary beauty that has captivated us since they were first used in jewellery India, around 2,500 years ago.

Ubiquitously harnessed by jewellery designers across all cultures ever since, and especially now that lab-grown diamonds have come to the fore, the diamond jewellery market can feel somewhat saturated. How then, to choose truly iconic diamond jewellery?

Here, Bazaar Arabia speeks to a clutch of international and regional designers who share their advice on choosing diamond jewellery that will eternally enchant.

How To Choose Iconic Diamond Jewellery

“An iconic piece of diamond jewellery transcends time. It should be versatile, yet unique and independent of any trend. To me, an iconic piece is not outfit specific, it just looks great with everything. Necklaces are always my go to piece—they can entirely dictate the first impression someone has of your persona. Much like the centrepiece of a great table, they make a statement and can often anchor your whole look. As a collector myself, I approach all my designs with a long-term mindset,  envisioning my pieces worn as heirlooms for generations to come.” Jenna Blake, founder of Jenna Blake

“An iconic piece of diamond jewellery offers enduring beauty that feels relevant in any era. The craftsmanship, attention to detail, and the way the piece interacts with light, creating a stunning brilliance, also contribute to its iconic status. It must also tell a story—whether through its design, the emotion it evokes, or how it becomes a part of someone’s identity. For versatility and timelessness, stud earrings are a great choice. They frame the face beautifully and add a subtle touch of glamour without overpowering.” Aisha Bin Hendi, founder of TOi Fine Jewelry

“For me, what makes a piece of jewellery iconic is the way that it makes you feel… If you put on diamond jewellery that inspires confidence, sensuality, or empowerment—it instantly becomes something more. Something you never want to take off. It’s all about following your intuition and finding the piece that is meant for you. When I design, I’m very conscious of the feelings that I want the piece to convey—love, beauty, confidence—all good things. There is an intention behind everything: from the sketches to the choice of stones to the craftsmanship. This intention is the real magic behind what makes the jewels so timeless and iconic.” Jacquie Aiche, founder of Jacquie Aiche

“Iconic diamonds are often associated with significant moments such as an engagement, making it a unique symbol of commitment. In addition, the timeless nature of diamond jewellery means that it can be passed down from generation to generation. A tennis bracelet is often the perfect choice: they are elegant and suitable for both everyday life and special occasions. Our jewellery is distinguished by exceptional quality thanks to the materials we use, and we are committed to offering first-class workmanship. To ensure their timelessness, we revisit jewellery classics by adding a subtle touch and a distinctive detail, while preserving their timeless character.” Yvonne Leon, founder of Yvonne Leon

“An iconic piece of diamond jewellery stands out for its timeless elegance, quality craftsmanship, and versatility. The piece should highlight the brilliance and natural beauty of the diamonds, using a design that complements rather than overwhelms; also the story it evokes can also contribute to its iconic status. I incorporate a subtle element of uniqueness or personal meaning that can resonate emotionally with the wearer, enhancing its long-term significance.” Muna Bin Barradah, founder of La Graine Jewellery
