Is this the most expensive jewellery piece in cinema history? Bazaar Arabia shares everything we know about the 56-carat diamond necklace.

Regardless of whether you’re the ultimate movie fanatic or someone who needs to be reminded that movies still exist — Titanic seems to be a film (or rather a cult classic) that the majority of people have watched and still hold close to their hearts until this day.

The American epic romance and disaster film released in December 1997 is based on the accounts of the tragedy that was the sinking of the RMS Titanic on April 15, 1912. The British passenger liner sank in the North Atlantic Ocean after hitting an iceberg during its maiden voyage from Southampton, England — the casualties were over 1,550 and has been branded as the deadliest sinking of its era.

The movie itself follows the lives of both Rose, played by the British actress Kate Winslet and Jack, played by the American actor and film producer, Leonardo DiCaprio. The two quickly fall in love during the ship’s maiden voyage, although they are immediately brought back down to earth when they are forced to recognize their different social standings.

In a recent study conducted by Confused.com, research revealed that the Heart of the Ocean necklace worn by Rose is the most expensive jewellery piece in cinema history. The statement piece is most known for its 56-carat heart-shaped royal blue diamond and is said to be inspired by the Hope Diamond which 45.52-carat diamond was extracted from India during the 17th century.

So… How much is the piece worth?

The Heart of the Ocean necklace is valued at £400 million which is approximately Dhs1,772,399,914, making this piece one of the most expensive necklaces in cinema with Ocean’s 8 ‘The Toussaint’ Cartier necklace following closely behind with a price tag of £119,823,000 which is approximately Dhs530,812,473.
