The Immersive Exhibition Drawing Cool Creatives Into The Watchmaking World

Celebrating almost 200 years of ingeniously precise craftsmanship, Jaeger-LeCoultre’s enthralling exhibition is bringing centuries-old watchmaking to life for a modern audience

Founded in 1833, Swiss watchmaking maison Jaeger-LeCoultre is one of the oldest and most prestigious masters of haute horology, having created some of the most advanced and precise watch mechanisms in history. Its rich legacy only serves to propel the Maison forwards, and its ability to marry ancient savoir faire with modern design sensibilities is hard to beat. Put quite simply, Jaeger-LeCoultre manages to make old, beautiful, and clever things from the past feel unfathomably cool.

It is this timeless swagger that drew a list of celebrities and creative idols to the Emirati opening of its newest exhibition, The Precision Pioneer, which debuted in Geneva at Watches and Wonders 2024 and is continuing on a world tour. Jordanian-Palestinian R&B singer Zeyne and Syrian actor Moatasem Al Nahar were among the guests at the Dubai private launch, while striking light-painting artworks by Chinese urban artist Roy Wang and a menu by the exemplary and renowned chef Himanshu Saini spoke to the maison’s avant-garde ethos. Film producer Abdulla Alkaabi attended as the evening’s master of ceremonies and then handed over to DJ Kaboo for the after party – this was an opening night that certainly defied any lofty, old-fashioned misconceptions of the watchmaking world.

The exhibition does the very same. Illustrating how Jaeger-LeCoultre’s pursuit of precision has advanced the art of fine watchmaking over the course of almost two centuries, the exhibition is divided into four fascinating chapters that immediately immerse guests into its world of pioneering innovation.

Rarely seen archive materials sit alongside groundbreaking models for 2024, including the new Duometre timepieces unveiled at Watches and Wonders and an exclusive limited edition Master Grande Tradition Calibre 984; its hypnotic green dial must be seen to be believed. Expect hands-on watchmaking workshops, behind-the-scenes videos revealing the secrets of some of the Maison’s most extraordinary techniques, and live watchmaking demonstrations from master craftsmen.

The Precision Pioneer is open free of charge to the public until 19th May at IDC Brookfield Place in DIFC. Visitors can drop in or may book guided tours online
