Here Are Meghan Markle’s Two Favourite Jewellery Designers
Bazaar speaks exclusively to Pippa Small and Shaun Leane about their jewels chosen by the Duchess of Sussex on her latest royal tour
In addition to a host of stunning outfit choices, the Duchess of Sussex dazzled in standout jewels during her recent royal tour. While she also opted for pieces belonging to her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana, designs from two British jewellery brands were also regularly spotted on the Duchess’s wrists and ears: Shaun Leane and Pippa Small.

Speaking exclusively to Bazaar, British designer Shaun Leane says, “The beautiful thing for me is that she has recognised my signature style and she has three of my most iconic pieces: the Talon Earrings, Signature Tusk Bangle and a Serpent’s Trace bracelet.”

“All of the pieces are elegant, chic, but with that edge of daring,” Shaun continues. “I think she champions British independent brands which has been lovely to see.’’

Meanwhile designer Pippa Small notes the Duchess’s choice of ethical jewellery through wearing her Omeen and Oshna bangles, which are handmade in Kabul by the men and women artisans of the Turquoise Mountain Foundation at a time when training and employing young people in creative jobs is vitally important.

Pippa tells Bazaar, “It has been so wonderful to see the Duchess wearing our jewellery, not only because she looks beautiful in it, but because it has opened up the question of ethical jewellery and all that it means. We were especially proud when she wore these bangles made through the arts charity Turquoise Mountain, who we have worked with for ten years now.”

“The designs of the jewellery the Duchess has worn are very feminine, simple and elegant,” notes Pippa. “They are also organic in shape, natural and pure, which seems to suit the Duchess’s style very well.”

Alongside his own award-winning collections, Shaun Leane has also worked with Alexander McQueen, Givency and Boucheron, while Pippa Small has worked for more than 20 years to pioneer a style of jewellery that respects the shape of the stones she uses by working around their natural contours, rather than cutting and polishing them.
