Princess Theodora Wears A Sensational Cartier Tiara For Her Glamorous Greek Wedding
The Khedive wreath scroll tiara boasts an impressive legacy, worn by the royal family line for the last 60 years
Princess Theodora, daughter of King Constantine and Queen Anne-Marie of Greece, married American lawyer Matthew Kumar last weekend at a sensational wedding held at the Metropolitan Cathedral in Athens. The princess chose the Khedive tiara to complement her off-the-shoulder gown, a piece of great historical significance thanks to its lineage within both the Danish and Greek royal families.

The tiara was commissioned to Cartier by Khedive of Egypt Abbas Helmy II in 1905 as a wedding gift to Princess Margaret, niece of King Edward VII, who married Gustaf VI Adolf of Sweden. After Margaret’s death, the tiara was bestowed upon her daughter Princess Ingrid, who married Crown Prince Frederik in 1935 and took the tiara to Denmark. Since then, the crown has passed down the family line, and it has been worn as the family’s bridal tiara for the last 60 years.

The wreath scroll design showcases a striking silhouette, and the princess chose to pair it with two other historical jewels – diamond earrings that belonged to Crown Princess Margareta of Sweden and a bracelet made of diamonds from a sautoir belonging to Queen Alexandrine of Denmark. We expect that Princess Theodora won’t be the last in this extraordinary jewel’s legacy.
