Running from 14 to 17 March, this year’s fair saw Van Cleef & Arpels’ collaboration with Sèvres, the esteemed porcelain manufacturer that has provided tableware and art objects for French Royalty since 1740. From 2012, the jewellery house has worked with Sèvres to create limited editions that combine porcelain and jewellery craftsmanship, with new creations making their debut at Design Days Dubai.

Amongst these was the Jeanne Antoinette long necklace, which is set with an array of gems including chrysoprase and cultured pearl beads and can be transformed into an impressive 17 different styles. Inspired by the powerful 18th century French socialite, the design honours strong women from times past. The lilac coloured porcelain is a unique tone developed exclusively for Van Cleef & Arpels by Sèvres.

Other jewels on display included those from the Émeraude en majesté collection, which celebrates the special historical relationship Van Cleef & Arpels has long enjoyed with emeralds. Featured in some of their most significant period pieces, this latest collection boasts the finest emeralds in a host of forms, cuts, and origins.

Continuing their flair for combining the measurement of time with superior jewellery craftsmanship, this edition of Design Days Dubai celebrated a unique Van Cleef & Arpels timepiece. The bejeweled Heure Marine watch is from the Seven Seas High Jewelry collection and celebrates the beauty of the Arabian Sea. Set with a mother-of-pearl dial within diamonds, onyx, buff-top sapphires and emeralds, the watch also features two sugar-loaf sapphires hailing from Sri Lanka, weighing an impressive combined weight of 27.34 carats.

2017 also sees Van Cleef & Arpels and Tashkeel, in collaboration with Design Days Dubai, supporting The Middle East Emergent Designer Prize for the fifth year.  This year's theme is Growth, and after an open call to emerging regional designers the semi-finalists are now preparing their prints and mock-ups for November, when the winner will be announced.

With Van Cleef & Arpels’ winning combination of jaw-dropping jewels and design community support, the 2018 edition of Design Days Dubai is already eagerly anticipated.
