Van Cleef & Arpels has revealed their 2018 High Jewellery collection in Paris this week with a fairy tale-themed selection that reinterprets four stories by the Brothers Grimm: The Twelve Dancing Princesses, The Golden Bird, The Three Feathers and Town Musicians of Bremen.

Originating from two volumes published in 1812 and 1815, the first tale of The Twelve Dancing Princesses sees jewels imbibing the enchanted ball attended each night by the sisters.  The Rubans de princesse necklace symbolises the coquetry of the sisters through silk-like ribbons of round and baguette-cut diamonds, suspending three remarkable pear-shaped stones weighing a total of 22.87 carats that can be detached and worn as a pendant and pair of earrings.

Meanwhile the Traversée étoilée bracelet uses two pear-shaped Burmese sapphires weighing a total of 50.03 carats to represent the lake that the princesses cross each night, highlighted by turquoise and sapphire beads surmounting a diamond-set cuff.

The second tale is The Golden Bird, which sees the Oiseau d’or clip in yellow sapphires, spessartine garnets, onyx and diamonds joining the Maison’s portfolio of humming birds, lovebirds and birds of paradise that have featured in Van Cleef’s jewels since their foundation.

Feathers are also the focus of The Three Feathers, which sees the remarkable Panache Mystérieux clip utilising the Maison’s Vitrail Mystery Set technique in an exquisite palette of coloured sapphires with diamonds.

The final Town Musicians of Bremen tale lies behind four jewels that include the Lumière bracelet, which offers a graphic image of the story’s lit window through a halo of white and pink diamonds juxtaposed against onyx and black spinels.
