The extraordinary diamond has been unveiled for the first time in Dubai and will take centre stage at Sotheby’s Magnificent Jewels and Noble Jewels sale in Geneva next month. Weighing 37.30 carats, the Fancy Intense Pink diamond was first unearthed in 2015.

The astonishing stone was studied for a year before being entrusted to a master cutter, who has brought the diamond’s beauty to life as a modified cushion-cut. “The Raj Pink” was named by the diamond’s current owner – who wishes to remain anonymous – and is based on the Sanksrit word for “king”.
Pink diamonds are extremely rare, with less than 0.2 percent of diamonds submitted each year to the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) being of predominantly pink colour. David Bennett, Worldwide Chairman of Sotheby’s International Jewellery Division, comments, “The discovery of any pink diamond is exceptional, but The Raj Pink’s remarkable size and intensity of colour places it in the rarefied company of the most important pink diamonds known.”
The sale is also led by a captivating selection of diamonds and coloured gemstones, alongside jewels from the leading Maisons including Van Cleef & Arpels and Moussaieff.
The Raj Pink and highlights of the sale are available to view at Sotheby’s Dubai until Wednesday 11 October at Level 1, Gate Village Building 3, Dubai International Financial Centre, between 10am and 8pm.
