Gucci meets Birkenstock, Italian extravagance meets German practicality. A combination as interesting as Tiffany and Nike or Supreme and Burberry, and yet we may have just seen it on none other than shoe queen Carrie Bradshaw, aka Sarah Jessica Parker, on the set of And Just Like That, season 2, which is currently being filmed in New York City.
Our all-time favourite fictional columnist Carrie Bradshaw is known for her unique outfit choices that may appeal to only some but never fail to make a statement. Her newest outfit, though, evoked more opinions formed by fashion admirers than usual. Shots have been taken of Sarah Jessica Parker slipping into the role of the chaotic New Yorker, Carrie Bradshaw, wearing a blue top and patterned cardigan over grey sweatpants, a tote bag reading “Out Getting Ribs,” a pink checkered mohair-coat and the Gucci-logo adorned Birkenstocks in question. One of her less extravagant ensembles, however, it is not the socks-in-slippers combination that has the internet on fire. Instead, it is the question of when and where to buy the shoe collaboration of the year.
Gucci has been a brand high in discourse, especially lately with the release of the film House Of Gucci and Alessandro Michele leaving the brand in November of 2022, and is known for its various collaborations with brands like The North Face and Disney. Birkenstock, on the other side, has strongly gained in popularity during, and post Covid as consumers started to value comfort more over stylish heels. A collaboration between the Italian luxury house and the German health shoe manufacturer would be something extraordinary.
So…Will There Be A Gucci Birkenstock Collaboration?
As much as this collaboration would go viral, according to Highsnobiety, an LVMH-controlled investment firm is highly invested with Birkenstock, and therefore chances of the German footwear brand collaborating with the Kering Group-owned Gucci are not as high as shoe lovers might prefer. That is not to say though a collaboration is impossible as the fashion industry is known for continuously surprising with unusual collections, campaigns and collaborations. For now though we have to come to terms with the fact that designs as seen on the feet of Sarah Jessica Parker can only be the result of custom made footwear and won’t hit the shelves so soon.
