Bella Hadid, Palestinian Male Model Qaher Harhash Star In New Jean Paul Gaultier Campaign
After a six-year hiatus from ready-to-wear the French maison is back in action, revealing both its new collection with a campaign like no other…
Looking back to its roots for inspiration (think sailor stripes, Madonna-esque cone bras and a camp-meet-Maritime aesthetic), Jean Paul Gaultier is seeking inspiration from the past as the house moves forward into its next chapter.
While maison founder Jean Paul Gaultier has stepped down, the house itself has appointed a new creative director who certainly isn’t shy of leaving her own mark on this iconic French brand, while ushering it into a new era (one that will be digital first, according to WWD): Florence Tétier now stands at the helm of the ship, steering Jean Paul Gaultier through the waters of the “new norm.”
Last week, the house unveiled its new ready-to-wear collection and campaign video – appropriately titled “Les Marins” – with Bella Hadid starring in the role of lead mermaid, while Palestinian male model Qaher Harhash and Omar Sesay took on supporting sailor roles. The video, directed by Charlotte Wales, shows mermaid Bella swimming, fishing and looking ever so elegant in what’s best described as classic Jean Paul Gaultier creations.
“It is my honor, with much love and respect, to represent a brand like JPG. Especially side by side with my fellow Palestinian brother @qaherhar and the epic, and endlessly coooollll @sesay_omar,” wrote Bella within a caption, when she shared the campaign video with her followers.
Here, Bazaar shares a close look at a few clips from the behind the scenes campaign that Bella shared on Instagram, as we anxiously await to see what’s next in store for the French fashion house…
