The Venice Film Festival, one of the world’s oldest film festivals and one of the “Big Five” (alongside Cannes and Sundance), kicked off yesterday. The annual festival is acclaimed for celebrating artistic and creative freedom through the means of film.
This year marks the 77th annual Venice Film Festival and, while usually the red carpet shines with sashaying celebrities, we weren't too sure what to expect with the on-going public health concerns related to the pandemic. In March, Italy was one of the countries with the largest outbreak of the virus, but has recently lifted travel restrictions last month.
In order to be safe and comply with the government's regulations, the festival will keep half of the seats in the screening venues empty and each guest will be subjected to temperature checks, as well as social distancing measures throughout events and screenings. Even on the red carpet, masks must be worn at all times (but appear to have been removed for photos) -- nevertheless, celebrities brought their a-game and looked flawless, while posing for pictures.
