Harper’s Bazaar Saudi Announces Contributing Fashion, News and Culture Editors
Marriam Mossalli, Lubna Hidayat Hussain, and Alaa Balkhy join the team, along with other KSA-based contributors as the magazine grows its network of experts, creatives, and pioneers throughout the Kingdom
With the imminent launch of Harper’s Bazaar Saudi less than a few weeks away, we have welcomed some of the Kingdom’s most dynamic thought leaders to the Bazaar family as a cornerstone of our mission to showcase and celebrate local talent.
Creative director and entrepreneur Marriam Mossalli has been appointed as Harper’s Bazaar Saudi’s Contributing Fashion Editor. The founder of luxury marketing firm Niche Arabia, BOF 500 member and published author, Marriam shared her excitement to be working closely with the world’s oldest fashion magazine.
“After working in this industry for over 15 years, it’s truly exciting to be part of this next chapter with Harper’s Bazaar—and for our Kingdom, too,” Marriam says. “This title signifies not only an investment toward the introduction of our homegrown talent to an international audience, but also the vision of Saudi as a regional leader.”
Marriam will be joined by Saudi journalist and producer Lubna Hidayat Hussain, Harper’s Bazaar Saudi’s Contributing News Editor. As the former NBC Bureau Chief and Producer for Saudi Arabia, she’ll be bringing her extensive experience in the media landscape to the publication, shedding light on current affairs in The Kingdom and beyond.
“I’m absolutely thrilled about contributing to Harper’s Bazaar Saudi. I remember flicking through a copy of Harper’s as a wide-eyed teenager in London and thinking that it was the coolest magazine ever. Decades later, I still think it is,” Lubna says. “For me, Harper’s Bazaar Saudi embodies intelligent fashion, thoughtful beauty and, also, a sense of looking deeper than just the superficial. Saudi women have always been incredibly glamorous, but in the past few years there has been an explosion of creativity, homegrown style and individual talent all set to conquer the world. I can’t wait to document this crossover of our trailblazing designers and photographers, capturing history in the making.”
Jeddah-born art director, illustrator and cultural consultant Alaa Balkhy comes onboard as Harper’s Bazaar Saudi’s Contributing Culture Editor. The serial entrepreneur, who splits her time between Saudi Arabia and New York, is the founder of the Arab Creatives Directory, a database that works to connect regional talent with creative agencies and media houses.
“It’s important for us to be able to write our own stories, our own narratives and not wait for someone to write them for us,” Alaa notes, who is passionate about providing regional talent with opportunities to shine. “There is no other Saudi edition of an international publication, there is always only a regional one. This is really big and I am happy to be a part of this.”
Harper’s Bazaar Saudi is also pleased to announce our first collective of creative contributors. Hala Alharithy, Hayat Osamah, Latifa Bint Saad, and Rayan Nawawi will be bringing their celebrated vision and talent to the inaugural edition launching in March.
The launch of Harper’s Bazaar Saudi will be accompanied by a series of exclusive private events throughout the year including luxury VIP soirées, exclusive dinners and workshops from global experts in the fashion industry. The magazine will be bi-lingual; in addition to being on main newsstands copies of the print magazines will be available at select hotels, salons and spas, whilst also being distributed exclusively to VIP readers.
