Etched forever in our memories is the iconic image of Gregory Peck clinging to Audrey Hepburn as she giddily whizzes her Vespa through picturesque Roman piazzas, zigzags between cafés abuzz with stylish espresso drinkers, and zooms through busy mercatos.
Roman Holiday has become synonymous with the impossibly glamourous trio – Audrey Hepburn, Gregory Peck, and the Vespa. 33 years after the movie was released, the iconic Italian scooter brand has joined forces with the French haute couture house of Dior to create a limited edition Vespa giving us the chance to bask in a spot of Roman Holiday-style 1950’s glamour.
The unorthodox image in the 1950s of Hepburn taking the lead on a Vespa aligns nicely with Italian creative director of Dior, Maria Grazia Chiuri’s visions of moving Dior into the future with a fresh take on femininity.
As the creative lead on the collaboration, Chiuri has juxtaposed high-quality Italian craftsmanship with the premium standards of a French haute couture atelier. In a cream shade with gold accents, the Christian Dior logo emblazoned across the side panel and the emblematic Oblique motif decorating the saddle, the scooter is art in motion.
The matching line of accessories, designed in Dior’s signature navy emblematic pattern, includes a helmet and a top case that attaches seamlessly to the Vespa’s luggage rack, for a chic weekend getaway.
The highly anticipated, limited edition Christian Dior Vespa will go on sale in Spring 2021.
