At the entrance to this luxury hotspot, smiling staff greet you warmly and lead you to your table. Before you look at the menu, take in your surroundings. A good dining experience is about so much more than just the food; where the fash pack eat is based handsomely on the style credentials of the venue. A restaurant should be a feast for all the senses, and Harper’s Bazaar Café is exactly that.
The d3-based eatery is designed to be a living embodiment of an iconic fashion magazine, which has long (150 years long, to be exact) been synonymous with the ultimate in style direction, known for its discerning content and luxury fashion finds. With fashion on the mind more than normal, the familiar aesthetic of shelves filled with fashion-themed books and glossy mags with their stylish spines on show makes for a sartorially splendid first impression.
The menu is diverse and eclectic, from a vast collection of Instagrammable breakfasts, including two very tempting dishes of truffle eggs and avocado toasts, to the dessert page, aptly named ‘Indulge’, which offers exquisite treats for those with a sweet tooth. There were also a myriad of main courses, for both the diet devotees and those who came to enjoy their ‘cheat day’.
Reminding us that eating healthy doesn’t have to be boring, we followed Chef Marco’s recommendations and started with a vegan low-carb option of curried coconut quinoa with roasted cauliflower from the healthy menu. The healthy dish was packed with veggies and a sauce so creamy, with just the right amount of spice.
Our second dish, the Angus Beef Burger, came with a healthy, gluten-free option to replace the bun with a lettuce and kale wrap, however the toasted brioche proved all too tempting and we opted for the not-so-healthy version, complete with juicy caramelized onions, crispy lettuce and a dash of Dijon, which sat atop a tender cut of meat. The burger, which melted in our mouths, was paired perfectly with crispy potato wedges, dunked in a sauce of your choice. Never has Gigi Haddid’s “eat clean to stay fit, have a burger to stay sane” quote rang truer.
With minimal room left, miniature desserts were the perfect dénouement of the afternoon. Little lemon meringue pies was just enough to satisfy our sweet tooth.
