PFW: Dries Van Noten’s Surprise Collaboration With Christian Lacroix For S/S20
The collection marks Lacroix’s first fashion week appearance in 10 years
The Dries Van Noten show is always one that is eagerly awaited by the entire industry. The understated Belgian designer is known for consistently delivering critically-acclaimed, commercially successful collections that depict wondrous stories through his imaginative use of vibrant colors and custom prints in a mélange of textures.
This season, guests arriving at the Van Noten’s Spring-Summer 2020 show were delighted to find a single rose on their seats with a small label reading DVN*XCLX; an announcement that the collection they were about to see was a collaboration between Dries Van Noten and the iconic French designer Christian Lacroix who was last seen at fashion week a decade ago. The expectations could not have been higher, but what ensued can only be described as a fashion geek’s ultimate dream.
Set to a stark, minimalist runway, the powerful designer collaboration spoke for itself through a Van-Noten-meets-Lacroix take on the exuberance of the 80’s. A kaleidoscopic mesh of color, animal prints, brocades, taffeta, plumes, polka dots, embroideries and embellishments came together to create high-impact yet surprisingly wearable looks that effortlessly fused together both designers’ signature aesthetics A true visual treat of a collection that we predict will be one of the absolute highlights of Paris Fashion Week.
