This Tunisian Film Has The Oscars In Its Sights
The Man Who Sold His Skin has just been nominated for Best International Feature by The Academy Awards
We’ve been waiting patiently for the delayed announcement and it’s finally here, well some of the shortlist is in at least. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has just announced nominations for nine categories for this years Oscars and amongst them was the list for Best International Feature – where Tunisian Film The Man Who Sold His Skin could be a strong contender to win.
Directed by the acclaimed Kaouther Ben Hania, the film, which stars A-lister Monica Bellucci, tells the story of a male refugee who allows a tattoo artist to use his back as a canvas and exhibit him at a Brussels museum, all because he is so desperate to enter Europe. The film centres around exploring ideas of freedom and is the writer-director’s follow-up to her 2017 work Beauty And The Dogs, showcasing her movement from romance and dark comedy to drama and tragedy.
The film enters the nominations having already picked up awards for Best Arab Film at Egypt’s El Gouna Film Festival and a Best Actor award for Yahya Mahayni at Venice Film Festival.
