Consumers in the UAE are prioritising bespoke and luxury travel in the coming months, while choosing gift experiences over physical gifts

As 2024 comes to a close, the American Express Middle East Trendex Survey has revealed key spending habits within the region, touching on travel, shopping, and entertainment trends throughout the winter and upcoming spring holidays.

The majority of UAE consumers expressed high demand for luxury and bespoke travel, with 97% of those surveyed planning to travel during the holidays – these consumers were prioritising a high-end travel experience, personalised experiences, private transportation and luxury accommodation. The average amount consumers are planning to spend? According to the report, dhs7,764.

Experiential gifting was also an important point of the survey: 74% of UAE consumers prefer to receive an experiential gift rather than a physical gift, and those planning to gift experiences this holiday season were seen to deem entertainment and travel as the most popular gifting options.

“Our Trendex Survey reveals a strong interest among UAE consumers for high-end travel during the upcoming winter and spring holidays, with respondents willing to spend more on leisure, premium services, exploring new destinations, and visiting family and friends,” says Saud Swar, American Express Middle East’s chief business officer. “American Express Middle East is following these trends to offer benefits and services that align with our customers’ expectations and aspirations.
