Ahead of her breaking Olympics battle, Bazaar Arabia shares a few little-known facts about B-Girl Elmamouny here.

Breaking Olympics: Who is B-Girl Elmamouny, the Moroccan Breaker?

She’s from Rabat, Morocco.

Born Fatima Zahra El Mamouny, the 25-year-old B-girl star was the first female breaker to secure her spot in the Paris 2024 Olympics break dancing battles. Though it took some convincing to secure her family’s support, B-Girl Elmamouny has confirmed in interviewers they’re proud of her success.

She has been competing internationally throughout the past few years, having started the sport just under 10 years ago.

B-Girl Elmamouny’s first major competition was in 2019.

B-Girl Elmamouny first competed – and won – the 2019 Red Bull BC One Cypher in Mumbai and has been crowned the two-time Moroccan champ. Winning the African Championship earlier this year made her the first Olympic qualifier for the is women’s B-Girl category.

She is the first Moroccan woman to compete in breaking at the Olympics.

Her breaking success has allowed her to explore the world.

From India to Egypt, B-Girl Elmamouny’s hard work has provided her with the opportunity to travel the world.

She believes breaking is both a sport and an art.

B-Girl Elmamouny is quick to highlight that, though there is a strong physical component to being successful in the sport, breaking is also an art-form.

“I’m always trying to show that this is a sport, and a dance and an art,” she told the BBC. “It can take you from somewhere bad to somewhere really good. And to those people who say it’s not a sport, I’d tell them to come to our workshops and do the moves that we show you and we’ll see if you can do it. They’re super hard!”

Good luck B-Girl Elmamouny!
