The S/S25 Bridal Trend Report

From ball gown skirts to smart tailoring, we present the ultimate SS25 bridal trend report

Say No To The Dress

Any excuse to wear a suit works for us, and a wedding day is no different. The ultimate chic, a tuxedo, day-suit or skirt-suit wins every time. The most iconic suit-sporting bride has to be Bianca Jagger who famously wore a YSL tuxedo jacket over a skirt for her marriage to Mick Jagger in 1971.

Coming Up Roses

Blush, ballet and dusty pinks are so hot right now with a shade to suit every palette. Not the bold move it once was, wearing colour to your wedding is de rigueur and often a popular choice for remarriages. If you are considering colour, keep it simple and let the dress do the talking. If you choose to be pretty in pink, we say ‘I do’ to sporting contrasting pink accessories.

Fly Away

The beautifully delicate nature of feathers add romance to a bridal gown giving it a fairytale appeal. Used on a smaller scale as a brooch or whimsy detail, the effortless flutter of feathers will make your walk down the aisle a memorable one. Brides looking to take this trend to the next level should veer towards Chanel. The perfect blend of plume, lace and tulle make this a style moment not to be missed.

Mini Me

From Audrey Hepburn to Cindy Crawford, some of the most stylish brides of our time have donned shorter hemlines for their big-day bash. Mini doesn’t have to mean micro, with knee and midi lengths a chic choice for a daytime wedding or as a quick costume change in the evening. Team abbreviated hemlines with ornate trains, hats and hair pieces for a retro revival.

Azzi & Osta reinvented their bridal hems with lines cut on the bias to add another element to this shortened style. Wearing a higher hemline also allows a bride to go all-out with shoes adding an elegant element to this fashion-forward bridal look.

The Gleam Team

Head-to-toe sequins screams celebration, and are always a good idea for events leading up to a wedding or as a costume change after the formalities have finished. To avoid any glitter ball faux pas, break up ravines of beading with strategic design and mix of fabrics a lá Tony Ward. If a gilded gown is too over-the-top for your wedding event, opt for a beaded bag and shoes as seen at Armani Prive.

Space Invaders

There was a certain out-of-this-world space vibe on the couture catwalks. Structured shoulders paved the way for exaggerated ear clips, face masks and headgear. Silver was the chosen metallic, which made way for more molten sequins. Only those brides who want to step out of the box should try this trend, not forgetting to also add some drama to your beauty look too.

Different Strokes

Every season we see some designers push the boundaries of bridal wear and we are more than here for that. Stephan Rolland, Gaurav Gupta and Ronald Van De Kemp hit it out of the ball (gown) park with creations made for the most memorable of grand entrances. Taking a runway look and making it your own masterpiece needn’t be a challenge. Ease yourself in with more natural hair and make up looks, leave any statement jewellery at home and rethink any big bouquet choices.

Lace Up

Lace has always loved a good wedding and been a go-to for brides over the centuries. Back this summer more intricate than ever, it has been interpreted in a style to suit any bride and wedding. Used as a veil, wrist and skirt detail at Valentino or head-to-toe situation at Tony Ward, the ornate patterns work in all forms. Made by machine or hand, lace is most commonly made of silk and cotton and when it comes to wedding dresses, gold and silver thread can also be used – a symbol of prosperity in many cultures.

Layer Cake

Butterflies, bows and belts – embellishing your wedding dress is a given this season, and extends to layers of lace and beads too. When it comes to adding an element to your dress, keep the design simple and build above and beyond from there.

Head Strong

A favourite bridal trend whatever the season, the veil continues to be recreated in every form. Long and short, veils delicately embraided with sequins, hand-made flowers and crystals were the chefs kiss at Elie Saab and Miss Sohee with a special mention to Gaurav Gupta who created a layered headband to sit under the embellished veil to add just the right amount of drama to the dress.
