February 2026 Issue Editor’s Letter: A New Chapter
Natasha Faruque takes to the helm as acting Editor in Chief of Harper’s Bazaar Arabia
Full disclosure – it’s my first rodeo. The start of the year inevitably chimes with change; and so too with Harper’s Bazaar Arabia, as I have the privilege of taking stewardship of the title, at least temporarily. Which is why, subliminally perhaps, this February issue has shaped up to be one that looks at the coming of a new emerging order.
Last year was defined by a massive shift in creative leadership at major maisons and we are now seeing its effects on runways. We herald the vanguard redefining the rules – and inspiration behind – couture, infusing their own multi-cultural, global heritage into what started as a thoroughly Parisian realm . We spotlight the new kids on the commentary block joining – and in some cases eclipsing – the ranks of those traditionally tasked with leading the conversation when it comes to fashion criticism and discourse . And we focus on faces like Lebanese dancer and model Yousra Mohsen, who is determined to change regional perceptions of her art form.
Our cover star, Lais Ribeiro, who was quick to find the soul of the city during her visit to Dubai, also fits effortlessly into this narrative. The Brazilian supermodel, who has graced the world’s most high-profile catwalks and campaigns for the past twenty years, understands that visibility is power – she has over three million followers on Instagram alone – and wants to use her platform with purpose. She’s pivoted to become a potent spokesperson, not just a pretty face.
Some see shifts as subversive, but this isn’t advocating provocation for its own sake. It’s progress – and that in itself is worth embracing. Viva la evolución.
