Bobbi Brown Shares Her Likes, Loves, And Life Lessons

The founder of Jones Road Beauty (2020) and her own eponymous make-up line – which she parted ways with in 2016 – has recently released her memoir, Still Bobbi, a personal story of reinvention. Here, the mother-of-three, 69, shares her world view with Bazaar

Name:

Bobbi Brown

Nationality:

American

Job title:

Make-up artist and entrepreneur

My fashion icon is:

Jennifer Aniston, or Phoebe Philo in her Céline days.

The items in my wardrobe that I couldn’t live without are:

My Prada loafers. They are the first expensive things I ever bought and are still my favourite.

My best fashion investment has been:

My collection of Chanel jackets. I’ve been buying them for about 20 years and never give them away. They don’t go out of style and make me feel put together, even when I’m wearing jeans.

The pieces of jewellery that mean the most to me are:

My engagement ring and my charm necklace.

The indulgence I can’t live without is:

My Human Touch massage chair. It feels like having a shiatsu session.

My style signature is:

Classic, comfortable and a little boyish

At my dream dinner party:

My husband would serve caviar with cucumbers as an appetiser and cook pasta with baby clams. For dessert, we’d have delicious berries and whipped cream.

And, I’d invite:

Stanley Tucci, the radio personality Charlamagne tha God, Michelle Obama, Catherine, Princess of Wales and my husband and [three] children.

My most used beauty product is:

Jones Road’s the Best Pencil in Brown. I use it as a liner, on my eyelids as eyeshadow and to fill in brows.

On my bedside table you’ll find:

Magnesium oil scented with lavender – it helps me relax – and my iPad. I check the world news before bed every night.

My favourite book is:

Liz Murray’s Breaking Night. I recently listened to Barry Diller’s memoir Who Knew on audiobook and I love Keith McNally’s I Regret Almost Everything.

My favourite family memory is:

Being on vacation in the Bahamas. We go every year for my birthday; it’s a tradition that has grown alongside our family, which makes it even more special.

My morning routine is:

I pet my dog, who sleeps next to me, go down and drink some water, make myself an espresso and open my iPad.

The rule I live by is:

Just be nice.

My last meal on Earth would be:

The best bread, butter, cheese, French fries, sushi or steak tartare

My favourite work of art is:

I’m a big Andy Warhol fan, and the only thing that I own is a dollar bill that he signed. I think it cost 100 dollars, but I thought it was so cool.

The wellness ritual I prioritise is:

Movement, because it supports both body and mind. I see my trainer twice a week to do weights and try to fit in yoga when I can. I walk for more than an hour a day, and that’s when I make business calls or catch up with friends.

The songs that get me on the dancefloor are:

The ones played at weddings, by artists like Usher and Biggie Smalls.
