In Dubai residents can watch this spectacular sight without the aid of telescopes or binoculars, thanks to its exceptional brightness.

Hasan Al Hariri, CEO of the Dubai Astronomy Group, told Khaleej Times: “The best time for pictures is when the moon rises. It is advised that people should go to a high point or find an unobstructed area for the best view of the Flower Moon.”

Perhaps it’s time to make use of your terraces and rooftops. Additionally, according to Hasan’s advice, driving to Dubai’s suburbs or Al Qudra desert, a favourite spot amongst astrophotographers, could also make for a great vantage point, away from any skyscrapers and light pollution.
Why Is It Called The Flower Moon?
This celestial phenomenon is called a Flower Moon because it usually coincides with the blooming of flowers in many parts of the world, especially North America, according to space.com.

However, it has various names in different cultures. The Cree, indigenous people predominantly living in Canada, called it the Frog Moon, as that’s when the amphibians tend to become active.
In the Chinese lunar calendar, the May full moon is in the fourth month, called Huáiyuè, Locust Tree Month.
This is not the only celestial event that takes place this month. Dubai’s skygazers were also earlier treated to the dazzling Eta Aquariid meteor shower, which peaked around May 5 and 6.
