Fashion Trust Arabia (FTA) is putting the spotlight on the next crop of up-and-coming MENA designers, with cash prizes of between $100,000 to $200,000 awarded to deserving labels. This non-profit organisation, that provides financial support to creatives across the region, launched this annual grant and mentorship program in 2018 and is currently the only initiative of its kind, falling under the patronage of HH Sheikha Moza Bint Nasser as honorary chair and co-chairs HE Sheikha Al-Mayassa bint Hamad Al-Thani and Tania Fares.
A 27-strong advisory board of international industry specialists, which include Valerie Messika and Peter Dundas, will pick twenty-four finalists who will showcase their work to the FTA jury in Doha this October in order to compete for career-changing prizes.
The winners will receive a cash prize of $100,000 to $200,000. Depending on the category, designers win additional rewards, such as having their collections placed in luxury stores like Harrods and Matches, as well as having multiple mentorship opportunities with other industry titans.
This program also aims to enable emerging designers to build global connections so every year the FTA partners with a guest country – this year’s being Nigeria, with past editions featuring Turkey and Colombia.
