Harper’s Bazaar Celebrates Its Storied Legacy by Kicking Off Milan Fashion Week in Style
Global editors and industry insiders gathered on the first day of MFW to celebrate 157 years of Bazaar
On a Tuesday evening in September – the opening day of Milan Fashion Week – Bazaar editors from around the world made their way to the Galleria d’Arte Moderna in celebration of the magazine brand’s storied 157-year legacy.
The modern art museum, which was founded in 1921 and is home to notable pieces by famed artists like Vincent van Gogh and Édouard Manet, made the perfect backdrop for the event as it welcomed President of Hearst Magazines International Jonathan Wright; President of Hearst Magazines Debi Chirichella; and Global Chief Revenue Officer Lisa Ryan Howard, along with Harper’s Bazaar Arabia’s Editor in Chief Olivia Phillips.
Harper’s Bazaar was founded by New York-based publishing house Harper’s & Brothers in 1867. The brand was first called Bazar and 36-year-old abolitionist and suffragette Mary Louise Booth was appointed as founding editor. She held the position for 22 years. Today 29 editions of the brand are published around the world.
