Home And Away: Harper’s Bazaar Arabia Escapes To The Other House, London

Looking for the perks of a private members club with the creature comforts of a central London crashpad? Enter The Other House

It instantly makes you feel posh. Not your main house, but The Other House. Not your primary Middle East abode, but your opulent London bolthole. And here’s the cincher: with almost all of your regular creature comforts (they’ll store your wardrobe, you have a fully-stocked kitchenette, a laundry service etc), it’s arguably even better than where you lay your head most nights.

A spa area complete with vitality pool? Check. A purpose-built OM Sound Bath by Leo Cosendai with the country’s largest gongs lulling you into wellbeing? Yes. A light-filled, all-day café, The Other Kitchen, which provides everything from chicken schnitzels and fish pies to full English breakfasts, eggs royale and falafel wraps? Absolutely. And that’s just one of the two in-house dining options – plus you have the whole of South West London on your doorstep, and are steps away from the museums of South Kensington and boutiques of King’s Road.

There are also a plethora of meeting rooms, conservatories, a library, and nooks and crannies in the clubby Keeping Room where you can ensconce yourself in throughout the ground and lower ground floor. And if you don’t have time to take your key from reception, you can download the all-encompassing app that’ll check you in and buzz you straight into your room.

When it comes to décor, think rich modern country house mixed-and-matched with over-the-top baroque touches. Gilded chandeliers and velvets rich meet wallpapered accent walls, while cosy rugs are artfully thrown alongside cushions in parlours decorated with quirky animal motifs. And no two ‘Club Flats’ or rooms and apartments are alike, as this property was fashioned by merging eleven Victorian townhouses together.

The spa is a destination in its own right with a sound healing room and Vitality pool

All these might also be hallmarks of grand hotels, but what sets this space apart is that The Other House is actually a private members club – but one you can get temporary access to, as long as you book a suite or apartment on the property. What that brings are added perks like a full calendar of on-site panel discussions, talks and gatherings (while we were there we popped into one bringing women in the sustainability sphere together), as well as social events, DJ nights at the Owl & Monkey and screenings. So it’s got the best of all worlds, in one cosy design-led space. And you can book for as long or as short as you like, with extras like daily breakfasts and regular servicing all available to tweak as per your whims and requirements.

Our top tip? Take a clan and book one of the sky-lit atriums, which have either three or four bedrooms attached to them and can be privatised to give you a huge space complete with central courtyard, to call home. Or should we say, to call your other house.
