How To Wear Your Watch Like A Fashion Editor: Hermès Cut Le Temps Suspendu

The Hermès Cut souped up with the
maison’s nifty time-suspending complication, allowing you to savour every minute and moment

There was a hushed silence, followed by a sea of smiles when Hermès unveiled its Le Temps Suspendu concept to the world’s horology press in 2011, first conceived for its Arceau timepiece collection. At the push of a button, the Arceau’s hour and minute hands could be temporarily paused, encouraging its wearer to linger in the moment, instead of being swept along in the constant rushing of time. It was witty, whimsical and exquisitely made – in brief, it was quintessentially Hermès. The Cut timepiece, unveiled last year, was a similarly savvy creation from the French behemoth brand – a totally new sports-luxe watch that shirked sharp angles in favour of sumptuous curves and cushioned corners. For 2025, the two phenomena have collided: meet the Hermès Cut Le Temps Suspendu watch.

With this timepiece, we have to tackle its technical prowess first – its mechanical self-winding H1912 movement, Time Suspended module and 50-hour power reserve make this far from your average fashion maison’s watch. Its time-suspending button sits at the 8pm mark, and with a gentle push it will whizz the hour and minute hands to rest at the 12 o’clock point, then at a second push, send them back to the correct time when you’re ready to return to real life.

While the opaline silvered dial version is great for an everyday watch, it is this sunburst red-tinted version – a limited edition – that is utterly irresistible in the autumn. A final nod to the maison’s signature whimsy? The continuous 24-second indicator, where the hand spins counterclockwise on a 24 second cycle, referencing the history flagship and headquarters at 24 Faubourg Saint- Honoré in Paris. When it comes to telling the time, this is total Alice in Wonderland territory.

Showcasing a sizable 39mm dial, this is a watch that will need a bold ensemble to meet its quirky character. Let its audacious dial set the colour theme with jewel tones that suit the autumnal season – riffing on hues of bordeaux, black cherry and brouge. Alanui’s cardigan is an investment piece you will wear winter after winter, which when paired with Alaïa’s barrel-leg cargo pants and Valentino’s boho blouse, will exude effortless glamour for easy-going outings that demand a stealth wealth aesthetic.

Up the ante with artsy, eclectic accessories to inject plenty of personality – Prada’s leopard print mules, Bottega Veneta’s zebra Hop bag, and a spotted Hermès Clic H bracelet will all speak to this season’s penchant for exotic animal prints. Finish the look with jewellery that feels like it’s been sourced from an antiquarium or Iris Apfel’s archives – Julietta’s Amore necklace and Dinosaur Designs’ resin ring are irresistibly tactile, while Saint Laurent’s satin pouch is the Hermès Cut’s spirit animal; ultra-luxe, but the antithesis of try-hard.
