Let’s Begin: A Letter From Our Editor | Harper’s Bazaar Arabia January 2022
Harper’s Bazaar Arabia’s Editor in Chief, Olivia Phillips, shares why 2022 is the sequel we’ve all been waiting for
So… is this take two? Or take three? I’ll be honest, I’m still a bit unsure what to expect from the new year, but what I can tell you is that I almost always prefer the sequel to the original. Ghostbusters. Grease. Back To The Future. The second iterations are all vastly superior in both plot and character development, so if 2021 was to 2020 what 2022 is to 2021… well, then I think we can all agree that things are looking up. The clue’s even in the pronunciation. 2022 – aka, 2020: 2. The chance to do it all again, just a weeny bit better this time around. A bigger budget. Some A-list cameos. A rousing musical number at the end. I’m looking forward to it already.
From Olivia’s Desk…

Come 20th January I will be glued to Netflix, watching cover star Mona Zaki’s latest movie, Perfect Strangers; the streaming giant’s first-ever Arabic film, also starring fellow Bazaar cover alum, Nadine Labaki.
VIVE Flow VR Wellness Glasses, Dhs2,449, HTC at Tejar
Taste: My Life Through Food by Stanley Tucci, Dhs160
Poudre d’Orfevre Face and Eye Illuminating Powder, Dhs375, Hermès
And that’s really the whole point of starting again, isn’t it? The optimism that comes with hitting refresh, and the excitement of staring into the unknown. Living for the blank pages, the plot twists, the messiness and the adventure. Oh – and the big musical numbers of course. So the happiest of happy new years to you, my friend. Jump in. Dance. It’s going to be great.
